A-Shares Poised for Post-Holiday Rally Amid US Stock Rebound and Gold Surge

2025-02-05

Today, the A-share market is about to usher in the first trading day after the holiday. Overnight, most popular Chinese concept stocks rose, with the Nasdaq Golden Dragon China Index up 2.65%. Upon returning from the long holiday, there is a flurry of positive news. The opening of the new year is eagerly anticipated. A-shares, hold your breath!

On Tuesday local time, the three major US stock indexes closed higher. As of the close, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.30% to 44,556.04 points; the Nasdaq Composite Index rose 1.35% to 19,654.02 points; and the S&P 500 Index rose 0.72% to 6,037.88 points.

The Nasdaq’s daily gain of more than 1% was mainly driven by a rebound in technology stocks. On Tuesday local time, large-cap technology stocks in the US market generally rose. In terms of individual stocks, Palantir surged about 24%, with its Q4 2024 revenue increasing by 36% year-on-year and its 2025 performance guidance far exceeding expectations.

In the commodities market, rising risk aversion pushed up international gold prices, with spot gold hitting a new all-time high, breaking through the $2,840/ounce mark. In addition, the US resumption of its “maximum pressure” policy against Iran caused disturbances on the supply side of the crude oil market, leading to an overnight “V-shaped” reversal in international oil prices. Brent crude oil turned from a decline to a gain, while WTI crude oil rose sharply in the short term before closing slightly lower.
