Chinese Armed Police Gold Force: Exploring National Treasures and Creating Gold Legends

2025-02-13

In the early days of New China in the last century, the country had just emerged from a prolonged war, leaving it weak and everything in need of rebuilding. To assist in national construction, we called upon countless overseas students to return home, and ultimately succeeded in lifting China out of its fragile state. It is said that the economy determines the superstructure, and thus, how to boost the country’s economic strength became the top priority at that time.

Gold, as a universally recognized economic asset, naturally became a key focus of China’s mining and reserves. However, due to the weak industrial base and unadvanced mining techniques at that time, China’s gold reserves were not abundant. To improve this situation, the country specifically established a gold mining armed police force in 1979, known as the People’s Armed Police Gold Troop. It is reported that this troop has cumulatively explored over 1,800 tons of gold and even unearthed the world’s largest nugget. Now, let’s delve into the story together!

The People’s Armed Police Gold Troop, established in the late 1970s to promote national economic development and increase the country’s gold reserves, is a special armed police force. Its main responsibility is to build the national economy by surveying and mining gold minerals. It is reported that the total number of personnel in this troop does not exceed 10,000, making it the only dedicated gold prospecting force in the world. Annually, the gold discovered by this troop accounts for one-third of the country’s total gold mining output, attesting to their professional skills.

Over the years, this troop has traversed vast territories of the motherland, with their presence felt in most remote and arduous regions. Mineral exploration tasks are far from easy, and the challenges they face are far greater than those in typical mining work. Nevertheless, over the years since the founding of New China, they have still explored at least 1,800 tons of gold for the country, significantly improving the nation’s gold production industry.
