The Ministry of Commerce also said that during the London talks, China committed to accelerating the approval of rare earth export applications from non-military US producers. Currently, a batch of rare earth export shares have been lawfully approved. These are actually promoted after the Sino-US negotiations.
Of course, this trust still has its limitations. Firstly, the license for rare earth exports has a time limit of six months. Secondly, there are still restrictions on the quantity of rare earth exports. This is to prevent European and American countries from importing and hoarding a large amount of rare earths at one time, thereby weakening the power of China’s rare earth sanctions.
However, for another kind of heavy metal, namely military metals, China still controls the United States.
Among heavy rare earths, there is a military special metal called “samarium”. The oxide form of this metal is mainly used in microwave radars, fighter jet radars, missile guidance systems, etc. It can also be applied in advanced fields such as nuclear reactors and high-temperature superconductivity.
Samarium is generally used in fighter aircraft radar.
Therefore, China has not relaxed its control over samarium. This means that the defense and military sectors of the United States are still being “strangled” by China. This is also a headache for Americans.
