Tesla’s Texas Gigafactory has achieved a breakthrough in the mass production of 4680 batteries, with the yield rate soaring to 95% and the annual production capacity officially exceeding 50 GWh, which is sufficient to supply 500,000 vehicles. This marks that the global power battery industry has entered a new stage of the “large cylindrical battery revolution”. After 4 new production lines are put into operation in the second half of 2025, the total production capacity will double to 100 GWh.
The all-dry electrode technology is the core breakthrough. This technology eliminates the solvent recovery link in the traditional wet process, directly reducing the battery cost by 30%, and the cost per kilowatt-hour has become the lowest in the industry. Combined with the cell-to-chassis (CTC) architecture, the energy density of the battery pack has increased by 18%, enabling the 2025 Model Y to have a WLTP cruising range exceeding 800 km, and the terminal price has successfully entered the 250,000-yuan range.
The industry pattern is facing restructuring. At present, a single 4680 battery production line of Tesla can produce 200 cells per minute, and the production efficiency is 40% higher than that of traditional technologies. The industry predicts that with the release of cost advantages, Tesla’s global market share is expected to further expand, and domestic power battery companies will accelerate the research and development of cylindrical battery technology to meet the competitive challenges.
