On December 23rd (Eastern Time), the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) released the results of the Section 301 investigation into China’s semiconductor policies, announcing that it will impose additional Section 301 tariffs on certain Chinese semiconductor products. The current tariff rate is 0%, which will be officially increased in June 2027. On December 25th, He Yongqian, spokesperson of China’s Ministry of Commerce, responded to this at a regular press conference, clearly stating that China does not recognize the so-called investigation conclusions of the US and firmly opposes this unilateral tariff measure.

He Yongqian pointed out that the US move violates WTO rules, will undermine the international economic and trade order, disrupt global industrial and supply chains, and ultimately harm the interests of US enterprises and consumers, which is indeed a move that harms others without benefiting oneself. China has lodged stern representations through the China-US economic and trade consultation mechanism, urging the US to correct its wrong practices as soon as possible. At the same time, China clearly stated that if the US insists on harming China’s rights and interests, it will resolutely take necessary measures to safeguard its own rights and interests. In addition, regarding the establishment of TikTok’s joint venture in the US, China hopes that both parties will reach a solution that complies with laws and regulations, and calls on the US to provide a fair business environment.
