High Global Trade Friction, Focus on Electronics Sector

2026-03-02

On February 28th, the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) released the latest global trade friction index. Data show that the global trade friction index continued to run at a high level in December 2025, reaching 104, reflecting that the tense situation in the global trade field has not eased. From the specific data, the amount involved in global trade friction measures decreased by 4.6% year-on-year but increased by 6.3% month-on-month, indicating that the scale of trade frictions is still expanding in fluctuations.

From a country perspective, among the 20 countries (regions) under monitoring, the United States, the European Union and India have the top three global trade friction indexes. Among them, the United States has the largest amount involved in trade friction measures, becoming the main initiator of global trade frictions. From an industry perspective, among the 13 major industries, the conflict points of trade friction measures mainly focus on the electronics, pharmaceutical, machinery and equipment, non-ferrous metals and transportation equipment industries. Among them, the electronics industry has the highest trade friction index, becoming the most affected industry.

Insiders analyze that the high operation of global trade frictions is mainly due to the weak global economic recovery, the rise of trade protectionism and the intensification of geopolitical conflicts. The reason why the electronics industry has become the focus of conflicts is closely related to the intensification of global technological competition. Countries have successively increased support and protection for the electronics industry, leading to an increase in trade barriers. In addition, the escalation of geopolitical conflicts in the Middle East will further disrupt global supply chains, exacerbate the uncertainty of global trade frictions, and exert sustained pressure on the global economic recovery.
