CPU Price Hikes: Intel & AMD Up 10-15%

2026-03-26

A new round of CPU price surges swept the global market on March 26, 2026, as industry giants Intel and AMD simultaneously raised product prices, with cumulative hikes of 10%-15% so far this year. Meanwhile, delivery lead times have been extended from two weeks to six months, putting PC makers including HP and Dell, as well as gaming PC manufacturers, under dual pressure of rising costs and supply shortages.

Multiple factors have fueled the price increases. On the one hand, the global chip supply chain remains tight, with rising raw material costs and limited production capacity pushing up chip manufacturing expenses. On the other hand, the explosive demand for AI computing power has triggered a surge in server CPU orders, exacerbating the supply-demand imbalance. Leveraging their technological and market dominance, Intel and AMD took the lead in raising prices and extending delivery cycles.

The price hikes cover both mainstream consumer-grade and server-grade CPUs, with a 10%-15% increase on average and steeper rises for high-end models. The drastic extension of lead times—up to six months for some models—has hit PC giants and domestic gaming PC makers hardest, facing not only higher procurement costs but also delayed product launches.

The CPU price surge will have a cascading effect across the industrial chain. PC makers will either pass on costs by raising retail prices or compress profit margins, weighing on short-term industry profitability. Gaming PC manufacturers face production constraints due to shortages of high-end CPUs, leading to longer product delivery cycles. Conversely, domestic CPU makers are seizing the window of opportunity for import substitution, accelerating market penetration as supply chain tensions persist.

The trend will also accelerate industry consolidation, with head manufacturers gaining an edge with superior supply chain and cost absorption capabilities, and forcing the industrial chain to speed up independent research and development. For consumers, PC prices, especially high-end gaming laptops and workstations, are expected to rise in the short term. It is advisable to wait for supply recovery and price stabilization before purchasing, or consider products equipped with domestic CPUs for cost-effectiveness and security.
