Brain-Computer Interface Enters Its Standardized Era

2026-09-16

The world’s first AI-enabled brain-computer interface (BCI) medical-device standard has officially been released, drawing a firm line under the sector’s freewheeling years and ushering China’s BCI industry into a new cycle of standardized, faster commercialization. Covering hardware components, algorithm software, safety testing and clinical review, the framework fills a long-standing regulatory vacuum and gives companies, regulators and product launches a single, unified set of rules.

According to brokerage research, a formal standard will sharply cut trial-and-error costs, speed approval for quality products, and meanwhile squeeze out weaker, non-compliant small players — pushing up industry concentration. Recent data underscores rising capital interest: fifteen BCI-related listed companies have drawn intensive on-site research from institutions, a clear sign that investors are taking the segment’s long-term value more seriously.

Until now, BCI remained confined largely to scientific pilots and niche uses, with sluggish commercial progress. As the regulatory picture sharpens, civilian scenarios — medical rehabilitation, assisted diagnosis and human-machine interaction — are expected to open up rapidly. Industry insiders see the next one to two years as the decisive window for large-scale adoption. With technology maturing and rules in place, BCI is well positioned to become a core growth engine in the AI-hardware track, delivering rewards for both the industry and capital markets.
