On September 29, a landmark cooperation took place in the new energy vehicle industry. NIO Energy introduced strategic investment from Geely, and the two parties established a cross-shareholding partnership. Upgrading their previous framework cooperation to in-depth equity integration, they aim to build an open and comprehensive national battery swap ecosystem and end fragmented industry competition.
This cooperation goes beyond simple capital collaboration, realizing in-depth integration of industrial chain resources. Leveraging its mature battery swap technology, operational system and nationwide station network, NIO will provide standardized battery swap services. Geely will complement its energy replenishment shortcomings, relying on its large-scale vehicle production and sales volume and offline channel resources to expand compatible vehicle models and application scenarios for the battery swap ecosystem. The two sides achieve two-way empowerment in technology, scenarios, channels and capital to build a shared industry battery swap platform.

China’s battery swap industry has long suffered from high brand barriers, scattered resources and redundant construction, with independent layout by carmakers leading to fierce internal competition and resource waste. As NIO founder William Li stated, this cooperation is a key move to eliminate industry involution. NIO’s battery swap system will remain fully open to attract more automakers to join the shared ecosystem. Industry analysts believe that the alliance of the two leading automakers will accelerate the standardization and large-scale development of China’s battery swap industry, reduce the overall energy replenishment cost of the sector, shift the industry from homogeneous competition to ecological collaboration, and reshape the new energy vehicle energy replenishment landscape.
