On June 4, 2026, the first batch of independently developed hundred-megawatt large-scale energy storage stations were officially connected to the power grid and put into operation in multiple regions of Northwest and North China, marking the large-scale commercial application of China’s self-developed new energy storage technology. All the newly grid-connected energy storage power stations adopt fully domestic battery cells and self-developed intelligent energy storage management systems, breaking the technical dependence on imported core equipment. Compared with traditional energy storage products, domestic equipment has prominent advantages in service life, operational safety and construction cost, meeting the high-standard operation requirements of national power grids. The core function of large-scale energy storage stations is to solve the intermittent and fluctuating problems of new energy power generation. They can effectively absorb abandoned electricity from wind power and photovoltaic power generation during peak power generation periods, and release electricity during peak power consumption periods, smoothing the load fluctuation of the power grid. After the full operation of these projects, the annual new energy consumption capacity will exceed 8 billion kWh, greatly improving China’s utilization rate of wind and photovoltaic resources. It will effectively optimize the domestic power supply structure, reduce fossil energy consumption, and solidly advance the construction of new power systems and the dual-carbon strategic goals. Industry analysts said that the centralized grid connection of domestic energy storage stations marks the maturity of China’s energy storage industrial chain. The large-scale promotion of domestic energy storage equipment will drive the iterative upgrading of upstream and downstream industrial chains and lay a solid foundation for the large-scale popularization of new energy in China.
